My obeisance to the Divine in you!
Dear Damian,
You have done intense reserch and well presented this article.
I have answered few concerns that beloved Sandy has, in case if you miss it, here they are:
1 - I would like to add that, Maitreyi (female) a philosopher and seer, was heavily involved writing the Rigveda. Also, may philosophical and spiritual books have been written by women. Women were not only considered equal but on a higher level than man. Sanatan Dharma’s (known as Hindu dharma in Western world) creator is a feminine energy also called The Divine mother, who is formless energy.
2 – Yes, women also went through all the four stages. Actually, most still follow these stages in this era. And, they were not reserved for taking care of the men. Women were extremely well knowledge, educated and well respected in the society. They had a choice to select their husbands and were not force to marry.
3 – Yes, there was full freedom to choose a professional outside of their caste. Sage Valmiki, who wrote Ramayana was born a thug and had a family. He had a dark life before he became a sage. Buddha was a prince who became sage. Sage Drona was a brahmin who fought at Kurukshetra as a worrier. I can give you thousand more examples if you wish.
2 – I myself, a Brahman girl, can confirm you that, what you have quoted above is not correct. Maybe you received a misleading information. Yes, at the time of periods, women were not allowed in temple or any social places, as tampons where not available 10,000 years ago. It was simply hygiene point of view. Now, I can go to any temple and perform puja.
I hope this helps. Please feel free to contact me if need any further information. It would be my honor to help you in your needs
Sending all my love and prayers. 💓🙏 🙏💓
