Manisha Panchakam is one of the best works of Sri Adi Shankaracharya. Short and sweet but holds all the Mahavakyas of the four Vedas.

Brahman and the Atman are essentially the same. The interpretation is at the core of the Advaita or non-dual school of Vedanta philosophy. Each Verse has so much power in it.

1st listed verse is giving the Rig Veda teaching (from Pragyanam Upanishad) of Prajanamam Brahma – Consciousness is Brahman. Rig Veda is the oldest Veda so he has placed it this verse number one.

2nd one is from Yajurveda (Brihadaranyaka Upanishad) of Aham Brahmasmi
